SNOFU.ART (Snofu's Campgrounds) - PRIVACY POLICY
Effective Date: January 1st, 2025
This policy is available in Plain Markdown format at: https://snofu.art/legal/PRIVACY.md
1. INTRODUCTION
We (Snofu's Campgrounds) value your privacy utmost and are committed to transparency about how our service operates. This Privacy Policy explains in clear terms how we handle data when you use our service.
2. DATA STORAGE AND TRACKING
2.1 Automatic Mode Switching
The NEODRAPE engine automatically determines whether each "Scene" in the game world operates in single-player or multiplayer mode based on the game's design. By using this service, you acknowledge that:
- Scenes may switch between single-player and multiplayer modes automatically without user intervention
- You cannot manually control which mode a scene operates in
- The data handling practices described below apply automatically based on the current scene's mode
- Some scenes are designed to be single-player only, others multiplayer only, and some may switch dynamically
2.2 Single-Player Mode Scenes
For scenes operating in single-player mode, we do not collect, store, or retain ANY USER DATA on our servers. All data is collected and processed entirely on the user's device.
2.3 Multiplayer Mode Scenes and Game Progress Storage
When scenes operate in multiplayer mode, or when game progress storage is active, limited data handling will occur to enable real-time gameplay and persistent game progress:
Anonymous Game Progress Storage:
- Gameplay data (such as tokens, last in-game position, achievements, and other game progress) may be stored on our servers
- This data is associated with an anonymized hash derived from your device fingerprint
- The hash cannot be reverse-engineered to determine your identity or personally identifiable information
- This allows you to resume your game progress while maintaining anonymity
Temporary Session Storage:
- Real-time multiplayer session data is stored temporarily in server memory (RAM) only during active gameplay
- Temporary session data is automatically deleted when sessions end
Data Sharing Between Players:
- Non-personally identifiable game data may be shared between connected players during multiplayer sessions
- This can include gameplay elements such as character positions, actions, game state information, and other technical data necessary for multiplayer functionality
- Personally identifiable information (PII) will NEVER be shared with other players
User Identity and Fingerprinting:
- A cryptographic hash is generated from your device fingerprint to create an anonymous identifier
- This identifier is used to associate your stored gameplay data with your device
- The hash cannot be used to identify you personally or be reverse-engineered to reveal personal information
- Multiple devices will generate different hashes and therefore separate game progress
2.4 General Data Practices
- We do not use cookies or any form of persistent tracking across sessions for identification purposes
- We do not store personally identifiable information (PII) or analytics data
- All stored gameplay data is linked only to anonymous hashes, never to personal identifiers
- Under no circumstances will our servers store personally identifiable information without explicit prior consent given by the user to do so
3. IP-BASED LOOSELY APPROXIMATED GEOLOCATION (WITHOUT STORAGE)
To optimize user experience (providing locally-tailored weather in the Campgrounds), we use a third-party service to perform temporary geolocation based on your IP address.
This process:
- Occurs in real time when you access the service.
- Is performed by IP-API, subject to their own privacy policy.
- Does not involve storing or logging your IP address, either by us or by the third party.
- Is done this way, through your client instead of proxied by our servers, to both:
- A. allow you greater agency to control the networking, and
- B. work around the low API request ceiling of the third-party service.
4. APPROXIMATE-LOCATION-BASED WEATHER LOOKUP (WITHOUT STORAGE)
To optimize user experience (providing locally-tailored weather in the Campgrounds), we use a third-party service to perform a weather lookup based on IP-API's approximate location lookup.
This process:
- Occurs in real time when you access the service.
- Is performed by Open-Meteo, subject to their own privacy policy.
- Does not involve storing or logging your approximate geolocation, either by us or by the third party.
- Is done this way, through your client instead of proxied by our servers, for the same reasons described in 3A and 3B, above.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Although we do not collect or store data, the third-party geolocation and weather provider services may process your data momentarily. Please review their privacy policies for more details:
IP-API Privacy Policy: https://ip-api.com/docs/legal
Open-Meteo Privacy Policy: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
6. YOUR RIGHTS & CONTROL
6.1 Single-Player Data
Since we do not store any single-player data, there is no user data to access, modify, or delete for single-player functionality.
6.2 Game Progress Data (Future Feature)
For stored gameplay data:
- Your game progress is stored anonymously using a non-reversible hash identifier
- You cannot be personally identified from this stored data
- If you wish to reset your game progress, you may do so with the in-game World Settings. If multiplayer data has been stored on our servers for your given save profile and fingerprint hash, an API will be called which will automatically delete it. Alternatively, you can contact us with the data required to locate and delete your game progress.
- Using a different device will result in separate game progress (due to different fingerprint hashes)
- No method exists to transfer progress between devices due to the anonymous nature of storage
6.3 Multiplayer Session Data (Future Feature)
For multiplayer sessions:
- All temporary session data is automatically deleted when you disconnect or the session ends
- You may disconnect from multiplayer sessions at any time to stop data sharing
- Temporary session data is separate from your stored game progress
6.4 Third-Party Services
If you have concerns about how third-party services (IP-API, Open-Meteo) process your IP address, you may:
- Opt-out in Settings (uncheck "Get locally accurate weather")
- Use a VPN or proxy to mask your IP
- Review the privacy policies of third-party services involved
7. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy as needed, without prior notice. Any changes will be reflected with a new effective date at the top of this page.
